A Laffi appears where it is needed most. They used to be everywhere, so that people hardly noticed them; but now, they have collectively retreated, choosing only to appear where people miss them most. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

With time, people truly began to feel an ache in their hearts for the pure kindness and devotion of the Laffis. However, this nostalgia manifests not for the Laffis themselves. It comes in potent doses: from a craving for candy to a yearning for one's family. Any desire is a person's heart calling back for the Laffis.

A Laffi only comes when it is called in this way. It begins in the world of Hliehhan, where it has taken up residence with the other Laffis, and when it hears a person yearning long enough, it takes the form that best comforts the person in distress. Once the Laffi answers a person's call, it will stay with them forever unless their desire dissipates--in which case it will either keep its current form and move on to comfort someone else; change its form and stay around people as a general protector; or return to Hliehhan.

It is impossible for Laffis to harm any living being, including each other. Their very nature is to bring comfort to people in distress; and the comfort they bring does not lead to aggression.
